Mixed Media

Mixed Media means using a variety of art materials together. One way is collage (cutting up and securing disparate pieces and gluing them together on a support). The material can be something as simple as images from magazines or a found object. The surface can then be drawn on, painted over, or altered in a variety of ways.

Mosaics are in the same way collaged pieces of a material. The works of art are created by using glass, ceramic, or even cut fabric, that is glued to a support and then either grouted or sewn. I like using glass for the variety of color and translucency. Glass and ceramic mosaics can then be painted on. Fabric and paper can be embroidered or quilted.

The artwork shown here are examples of Stained Glass Mosaic.
